Along the small river, discover the heritage of this charming seaside town. Learn about its history from the 13th to the 20th century. This protected wooded site in a small cauchois valley has received the label “Most beautiful villages of France”.

On top of the Ailly cliffs remains the Saint Valery church and its graveyard, 262 feet high above the sea. Made renowned by Claude Monet’s paintings, this site is also visited for its stained-glass window created by the cubist Georges Braque who has his tombstone here. The visit continues with the chapel Saint-Dominique containing other Braque stained-glass windows, after a brief overview of the Bois des Moutiers* with its unique Art & Craft house and fantastic collection of hydrangeas blooming into a 2-hectares leafy park.

*Currently closed for renovation.

The visit starts with the 16th century parish church located in the secret Viking’s neighbourhood. A few metres above stand the moving Anglo-French cemetery, with Commonwealth burials in memory of the battles of the Second World War. On the Marina (city centre), remains the 16th century Henri IV house, the jewel of the coastal town. A walk in the old district sailors recalls people lives in the ancient times.
